Putin could level Ukraine in less than an hour but hasn’t. It’s as if he’s fighting with both hands and feet tied behind his back. War has changed from what it used to look like.

Barely trained conscripts will do that to a country. Be like throw a rand in an F1 car and expecting ricky bobby to pop out of them.

Putin obviously isn’t doing a full-send, so to speak, otherwise Ukraine would in fact be leveled in an hour. He’s doing the least amount while still technically invading

He is against the Ukraine gov not the people.
He still considers them as Russian.
Taking out the gov without mass killing, novel in this world for sure.

It took Germany and the USSR 5 weeks to conquer Poland in WWII, and Poland is half the size of Ukraine.

Leveling Ukraine would be detrimental to Putins 'win condition'
Install puppet government, avoid Ukraine joining NATO, win over the population while being seen as liberators.
Avoiding a long, long insurgency and underground war by inadvertently uniting Ukrainians through excessive use of force.

Likely miscalculation of the Ukrainian resistance. Shortcomings within the Russian advance, logistical mainly.

These things may make it seem that war has changed but I believe it is actually a different strategy playing out. Different to the shock and awe of US military doctrine or the blitzkrieg of the Nazis.

Putin is encircling Kiev to apply leverage whilst entering negotiations.

The sum total of war remains the same. Death and suffering.

level it how? bombarding civilians 24/7? that might trigger later something else.

what he did do is either him or his dumdum generals put in front the youngest, least geared, least trained soldiers that got literally fucked in the ass.

he wanted a blitzkrieg and did literally nothing of the sort.

and wait until they go in the major cities, especially KIEV, on foot to conquer it, as you can't go in by tank in an dense urban fight, russians will lose thousands of men very fast. including special forces trained people that yes, are extremely well trained, but not that many and in such an urban fight, a lot of people will die regardless of their training, in the end.

plus the kadirov wanna be whore that got massacred along with everyone of his checkens, this is another myth blown out of the water. they all died and I am not even sure they killed anyone back lol. not that it matters.

in a regular war, not committed warcrimes 24/7, this is the best russia can do.

it makes a silly statement for the future, unless it's nuclear weapons, russia is literally laughable by a good army.

also he has 200 000 k there in ukraine and this is 50% or more of his regular army, again a number not wow at all.

plus all these heroes stories, ukrainians preferring to die than surrendering, the president being on the streets with an assault rifle, the klytshko brothers defending KIEV on foot with ak47s, both oleksandr usyk (world champion at boxing right now) and now vasiliy lomachenko (another world champion boxer that still competes), imagine the morale boost when you see someone come. from teh USA from their many million dollar mansions with their ferraris and their millions of dollars in banks. to fight on foot for Ukraine. This is incredible and it's probably a feeling we will never experience in this lifetime.

Today the war is becoming so global that every single leader get the global echo of it when coming back at home, from their own inner family or friends.
The concern is so big they are "forced" to take a stance, then a decision in front of the world, even overbidding the each-others, explaining the sanctions in 4 days.
Propaganda can no longer applies perfectly, news are faster than fast motion tanks. War is transparent, everyone has a camera and can publish videos or share data etc...

Probably a large part of these russian soldiers are not motivated for this job, on the other hand pushing a button to launch a missile does not require much guts.

Country A to send aid, backpacks, opening arms to refugees...
Country B -- defensive weapons
Country C -- offensive weapons
Country D -- offensive weapons AND the guys who will explain how to use it
Country E -- volunteers for fight
Country F -- tacticians and logistic
Country G -- fuck it, declare war and send soldiers ...
Country H -- jihad !
etc

In few days !

So things can escalate quickly to the maximum acceptable before total conflict.
