I found it's not really about cognitive dissonance, it's simply some people thought it was worth it for $1 or $20. Unless I'm missing something? And also you have to factor in the tone of voice, and how the lab instructor speaks to persuade them as well.

They all did it for the money.
The difference is, the ones who where paid more still said it was boring when asked afterwards.
The ones who where paid less, changed their opinion and now said it was NOT boring and actually believed it.
Remember, the task was designed by scientists to specifically be boring.

That is 1954 money.
Back then a new car was $1500.
Think of it as $200 vs $10 today.
