https://sports.yahoo.com/kellogg-permanently-replace-striking-workers-154720822.html

in october 1400 or so workers went on strike to protest a myriad of issues.

-7 day work weeks sometimes for as many as 120 days in a row
-company looking to reduce benifits from health to retirement
-company rakes record profits, pays massive dividends, and CEO gets raise
-company creates "transitional employment" so called onramp to full time employment, largely never delivers
-lack of grieving/funeral days, holiday days off, etc.
-require employees on short notice to cover for another employee that calls in sick, sometimes with as little as 10 mins notice
-company complained about pay of employees, which was largely driven by required overtime and holiday pay

well they were on strike for months, company offered a 3% raise, employees rejected it, and a few days later are now all being replaced just in time for christmas.

my opinion is that of the 1400 or so fired employees they'll be replaced with 1200 or less new employees and automate a large number of processes as well as phase out temp employees to automate even more. having worked with Kellogg in the past they're perhaps the most cutthroat of all our customers, true scumbags that just chase profits for stock prices.

Sounds like the workers aren't losing much by getting fired. The job was ass anyway and Kellogs is gonna lose a lot of money in the mean time to onboarding new employees.

Sounds like a lose-lose situation honestly. I imagine their automation game is already on point so I question how much they can add to the automation process while staying within sanitary requirements and such.
