It's news to no one that the last few years democrats have really ramped up various type of rhetoric pushing for more gun control. Seems like every time there's a mass shooting you have democrat politicians coming out to soapbox. In some places gun control has tightened in other places it remains the same. The effects?

Data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Checks System suggests a sharp uptick in gun sales in the last year and a half. In 2020, the FBI conducted background checks for nearly 40 million gun purchases. That's compared to about 28 million background checks in 2019, and 26 million in 2018. In 2010, the FBI conducted 14.4 million checks. Through the first six months of 2021, it has initiated more than 22 million background checks.

So a record number of people are getting guns now that we have a democrat president in office. Now it's impossible to know why exactly but a really good reason is because people associate democratic leadership with more regulation therefore they try to get ahead of it and purchase firearms. I mean they are literally getting on TV and saying they will do all they can to stop sales and/or ban certain firearms. I'm not a gun owner but i was seriously considering buying at least a shotgun or a rifle because I thought if these people succeed this may be my only chance in life to buy certain guns -- I assume many had the same thought process. Honorable mention to the BLM riots, I'm sure those had some effect on people wanting to buy guns as well.

So I just want to congratulate these dumb fucks. Gun companies should be sending Christmas cards to democrat lawmakers who are so eager to open their mouths. They are literally one of the primary reasons millions more guns were sold.

Gun manufacturers have the most gullible customer base ever lol

We aren't 50 years from meaningful gun legislation, but it's so easy to convince a fearful population that it's right around the corner. For my entire lifetime "Democrats are going to take your guns" has been a talking point, and we haven't made any meaningful moves towards that even while we've had massive increases in school shootings.

I wouldn't be surprised if most establishment Democrats held a significant amount of gun manufacturer stock.

I mean, didn't we see the same thing under Obama? Conservatives spook easily when it comes to gun rights and I can't blame them because liberals don't seem to try and understand the culture behind guns.

Nationwide ammo shortages and record breaking gun sales with the defund the police campaign.

Take a look at the latest Pew Polling (from May), and support for tightened gun control has dropped among Dems, Republicans, and Independents since 2019. And while it's still primarily city-based voters who're advocating for gun control, even support in cities is waning.

It's kind of a strange thing. If there's no law enforcement around to keep the bad things from happening, then here are some basic questions:
1. Who enforces gun laws?
2. Why should anyone care about gun laws?
3. Who's going to do anything to you for violating the gun laws?
4. How are you going to protect yourself if somebody else violates the gun laws?

Rural voters, by and large, do not support tightened gun control laws, for obvious reasons. At any rate, I tend to think you've got to pick one or the other, tightening gun laws or defunding/abolishing the police. If you go for both, you'll end up with record breaking sales of firearms and ammo causing national shortages, AND you'll end up with criminals becoming emboldened. It's a terrible strategy unless you want to see the nation explode.
