HOUSE HOLDS VOTE ON CAPITOL RIOT COMMISSION: The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on two bills related to the deadly January 6 insurrection this evening. H.R. 3233, introduced by Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and John Katko (R-NY), would establish a 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6 attack. Prominent members of the GOP, though, have already come out against the proposal, with Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy saying he ‘cannot support’ the legislation and former President Trump calling it ‘partisan unfairness.’ Though it's expected to pass even without GOP support, it will likely face Republican pushback in the Senate, where Sen. Mitch McConnell has already said he opposes the bill.
H.R. 3237 is a proposal for $1.9 billion in emergency security funding in response to the deadly attack on the Capitol on January 6 to help upgrade Capitol security, repair damage suffered in the riot, and support prosecution efforts, among other measures.
Whos all watching this??
