To provide slightly more up to date news, and some context: The driver of the vehicle clearly intentionally rammed the barricade and injured two officers in the process. The suspect was shot by officers. Both officers were rushed to the hospital with injuries, as was the driver, who was in critical condition.
The suspect died in the hospital, as did one of the officers. No information whatsoever regarding the driver.
Note: Congress is in recess. The majority of House and Senate members are more likely in their home districts or on vacation, as opposed to at the Capitol.
Will update if/when any information regarding the driver, or the deceased officer is released.

imagine being proud of people who attack their own nation's capital
Who's proud? Another dead cop, another dead criminal. If anything, I suspect most people are infuriated.
Also, I will note that Capitol Police do NOT believe there is anyone else involved, they are calling it a lone incident, but they have deployed national guard and imposed lockdown in the area.
Update:
Quote
Pittman says the suspect rammed a barricade near the U.S. Capitol. She says the suspect then exited the vehicle with a knife and lunged at the officers. The suspect was shot and died at the hospital.
Still trolling through news articles from various sources to see what meat I can find. Will add more info as I find it.
