Theres a tonne of videos floating around of soldiers shooting, beating and torturing civilians. The military declared a recent election to be fraudulent, arrested the elected leader who won the popular vote, took over the country in a coup and are now killing anyone that dares to say otherwise. They also claim to be for democracy 🤷‍♂️

Naturally they have the full support of china and russia

As Myanmar’s military celebrated the annual Armed Forces Day holiday with a parade Saturday in the country’s capital, soldiers and police elsewhere reportedly killed dozens of people as they suppressed protests against last month’s coup.

A count issued by an independent researcher in Yangon who has been compiling near-real time death tolls put the total killed by late Saturday afternoon at 74, spread over more than two dozen cities and towns. That would make it equal to the deadliest day since the coup.

That region has been unstable for so long and so much of it can be traced back to our proxy wars with the commies. It seems even to this day a lot of the stuff happening there is in one way or another tied to that conflict. There's also the problem of ethnic/religious power struggles, you have Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians that can't get along and each taking turns committing atrocities. I actually used to work with a few people from Myanmar that came here as refugees and they were telling me how basically they had to run for their lives because another ethnic portion of the population was trying to kill them.

I actually just recently watched the movie "First They Killed My Father" which I highly recommend for anyone that cares to learn more about that part of the world. Not related to Myanmar but what happened with the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Gives a decent taste of the dynamics of the region.

Does Myanmar have oil, rare earths or a pivotal geopolitical location? No? Then I guess it's unnecessary to "bring" them "democracy".
