nice strawman, the part of policing that needs to be defunded is the literal military level equipment thats given to them. Some places do need extra policing and funds but anyone that takes the issue seriously knows that that is what they mean.
There are multiple other issues that need to brought up alongside policing, joblessness, lack of social funding, all problems that affect communities that need to be talked about alongside policing which I think is one of the problems with the defund the police messaging optics
Police have shown repeatedly that they suck at dealing with mental health crises, community policing, and not trying to lock up every brown person that they possibly can using the most unethical tactics.
The problem is that the law has developed in such a way to incentivize racists to become police officers and to force out anyone of good conscience -- kind of like what has been happening to the Republican party over the past several years.
Socioeconomic problems are important issues, but until police can be held accountable, there will be more George Floyds. Defunding the police became the message because the legal system has failed to provide accountability.
