250,000 doses bound for Australia have been blocked from export by Italian and EU officials.

The EU previously enacted controls to do this lawfully, claiming it was to improve transparency of vaccine availability.

The block backed down its threat to shut the Ireland and Northern Irish border, in an attempt to prevent vaccines entering the UK from Ireland.

Has the EU's approach been justified?

Quite enlightening. Lookup where Anglo-Saxons migrated from.

UK vaccination rate is above 30%

Which is arguably still far from good enough.

Comparatively the highest rate in any EU country is 13% in Serbia

Not sure if you read the article? It literally explains what I outlined my original post.

This is copy paste from the article you linked.

'Two days later, Italy sent the Commission its refusal to grant the request and Australia was notified of the decision on March 2, before the news became public.

The Italian ministry cited three main reasons for blocking the shipment of vaccines:

Australia is not considered a vulnerable country, according to the EU exports control regulation.
The EU and Italy had experienced shortages of supplies and delays from AstraZeneca.
Italy argued that too many doses are being exported outside the bloc in comparison to those being supplied to EU countries'

Neither Anglia or Saxony were French regions, or anywhere near France.

Both are in what is Denmark and northwest Germany.

Throw a dart at a spinning globe geography is fun though.

you stated that EU officials were blocking the export, but the article says it's italian officials, and that australia asked the european commission to review italy's decision.
