The F.B.I. and local authorities are investigating a bombing on Saturday morning at a church in Los Angeles County that had recently been the target of protests for its extremist views against L.G.B.T.Q. people, women and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The police responded to reports of an explosion at the church, First Works Baptist Church, in El Monte, Calif., just after 1 a.m. on Saturday.

An “improvised explosive device” was found to be the source of the attack, said Chief David Reynoso of the Police Department in El Monte, which is about 13 miles east of Los Angeles. Officials would not elaborate on what they found.

No one was in the church at the time, and no injuries were reported. The authorities found obscenities and the words “get out” spray-painted on the front of the church, Chief Reynoso said.

The obscenities were anti-religious slogans, most news outlets covered this part up.

NYT, Wa Post, Buzzfeed: "Those bigots got what they deserved"

What were the church's "extremist views"? Any additional info on that? Mildly curious if it's standard Biblical rhetoric, or something actually extreme.

This isn't terrorism. It's activism and protection against a church that wants LGBT people to be killed.

Source regarding "wanting LGBT people killed"?

And um... Bombing a place of worship to achieve a political goal is literally the definition of terrorism.

Their pastor, Bruce Mejia, has called for the government to mass execute LGBT people. It's in the article in the OP.

Also, this is self-defense.

Is that what he said? See, narratives are a wonderful thing. How do you avoid defamation lawsuits related to misquoting people? Don't misquote them:

Code
“We don’t advocate Christians to go out and be vigilantes,” and kill gay people, he said, according to the center. “We want the government to do it.”

See what's quoted? “We don’t advocate Christians to go out and be vigilantes, we want the government to do it.”

I don't know if the context of what he said had anything to do with what they claim it does. The alleged statement isn't sourced or cited.

Regardless, he did NOT attack anyone, no other member of the church attacked or harmed anyone. Bombing a church because you don't like their message is not "self defense" it's terrorism.

I mean, plenty of Mosques have had Imams actively preach going out and killing gays. Such as the Mosque the Pulse Nightclub Shooter attended. Direct result of a direct call to violence. Would it now be okay to bomb that mosque? Or is it maybe more accurate to say if people are inciting violence, that's criminal activity, and they need to be arrested, rather than terrorizing whole congregations?

I disagree. It's morally appropriate to use violence on somebody who seeks destruction of a group of people based on something they can't choose. I.e. race, sexual orientation, national origin.

I wholly support any violence against these people in defense of our LGBTQIA+ brothers, sisters, and Xisters.

Really? So it's acceptable to bomb someone based on an unsourced allegation?

Perhaps you should reconsider that position.

People have the right to hate. I might hate my neighbor, this doesn’t give me the right to bomb his house even if he says he hopes the government would kill me and my family. Straight fascists.

I’m sure the police are going to be cool with it 😂
