I PMd a mod who said this would be fine as long as we kept spam under control. The scotch conversation made it clear we have some connoisseurs here

Thread can be open ended on maybe special/exotic dishes you have made or had. Cocktails , liquors , etc. Diamond in the rough restaurants at major cities that sneak under the yelp radar.

We can see where this thread goes :)

I finally found a great butcher so thick as hell Ribeye steaks are on the menu every week.

Anybody got a good recommendation for a moderately priced ($40-$100 a bottle) wine or whisky that would go good with this for regular consumption?

I'm a huge fan of Four Roses Small Batch bourbon. More than one article out there will say it's the best affordable bourbon on the market.

I honestly don't believe a bottle of wine is worth that amount of money, but a full-bodied red generally accompanies most red meats.

Don't really consume the whisky with food generally. Prefer a beer or wine.

protip: xmas many families eat prime rib. after the holidays walmart clears stock and marks down the prime ribs 50% or so.

i bought 3 of them last week, all marked around 100$ each, all for 45$ each. then cut them into thick bone in rib eye steaks and vacuum sealed and froze them.

i now have enough steaks to eat steak whenever the fuck i want.

I've been cutting down on the amount of meat I eat and trying to make sure the meat I eat is quality. Mostly out of environmental reasons. Also expanding my veggie cuisine has definitely introduced some cool stuff I didn't use before (loads of different pulses, indian food, ethiopian food).

Found https://www.grutto.com/nl/, a website where you basically buy a meat package of a specific animal/set of animals. It's documented which animal your meat came from, which farm your meat came from (and how the animals are treated there), and the meat is generally of way better quality than the supermarket. I've also started being more critical of the origin of my produce. I don't buy Quinoa cause Peru, no lamb from NZ, etc. Kind of a waste of energy to have food flown/shipped all the way here.
