I see so many Democrats complaining about the rapid degradation of public discourse. They fail to realize that they have been the principal catalyst. Calling your fellow American citizens sexist, racist, xenophobic, fascist, “actual” nazis, etc isn’t something people used to do back when people spoke to each other with basic dignity.

Just because people would rather keep their freedoms than go along with some crackpot authoritarian measure a leftist came up with while smoking pot with their Leninist buddies, doesn’t make them a ___insert horrible label___. Despite all the self-righteous pandering, their language amounts to nothing more than constant insult and violent innuendo. So, please don’t claim you were blind sided; or you could keep lying.

There’s no excuse for calling people any of the things I described, unless it’s true, and you have proof. Both sides did contribute, in that the right has called some people on the left communist when they were not. They should have used the term authoritarian socialist. It’s more apt.

Our failure to say, “How dare you!”, followed by a defamation suit, was the cardinal sin. We had an acute lack of courage. That’s what fear of reprisal does to public discourse. That’s what cancel culture does to public discourse. They degrade it until they destroy it.
