The fatality occurred in D.C.’s Brightwood Park neighborhood after 10 p.m. Friday. Police say Hylton was riding on the sidewalk in the 500 block of Kennedy Street Northwest. Officers reportedly tried to stop him because he was not wearing a helmet.


Hylton, police said, later exited an alley in the 700 block of Kennedy Street and “collided with a passenger vehicle.” He died at a hospital.

His girlfriend and family told NBC Washington they believe police were responsible for his death, and they’re calling for bodycam footage to be released.

Not confusing. What you said is the current sentiment according to the family quoted in the article.

My assumption would be that the thought is that the cops shouldn’t have bothered him in the first place for not wearing a helmet. If they didn’t bother him, he would have never ran from them and if he never ran from them, he would have never hit the car coming out of the alley.
