The global settlement announced today involves the company pleading guilty to three felony counts for defrauding the United States and violating the Anti-Kickback Statute from 2009 to 2017. In addition to agreeing to plead guilty to these three felony counts, the company has agreed to a $3.544 billion criminal fine and a $2 billion criminal forfeiture amount. Further, to resolve its civil liability, Purdue Pharma has agreed to $2.8 billion in damages to the United States. The company is in bankruptcy, so the corporate resolution is subject to the bankruptcy court’s approval. If approved, this will be a corporate settlement totaling more than $8.3 billion. Additionally, members of the Sackler family have agreed to pay $225 million in a civil settlement that will provide civil releases only.

It is important to note that this resolution does not prohibit future criminal or civil penalties against Purdue Pharma’s executives or employees.

The company who killed millions through the opiate epidemic pled guilty to widespread kickbacks to doctors to prescribe their drugs, paid a fine, and agreed to shut down. No arrests were made.

following point also taken. only having to pay back money for malicious acts with money that was defrauded, only serves as a loan for those willing to take it.
although we should note this statement that was added in.

i'm honestly not too familiar with this case to be able to allege anything. either way, mass audits within gov are at least working as predicted. that's a +
the HHS site is a better site to visit if you want to see investigations and findings pertaining to healthcare industry

Sacklers sucked up to 10 billions $ from Purdue just before the lawsuit, but hey look at this huge 225 million dollars settlement. What a joke.

i'm not trying to defend people abusing the system, nor am i trying to say "justice" has been served.
however, it's been Trump's 2016 policy to eliminate waste/fraud/abuse within the government and healthcare system and ending the opioid epidemic . that starts with gathering info, hence mass audits leading to investigations.

i have a few threads that i dedicated to some of this in the past. some stories leading to mass arrests, breaking up rings that spanned nationally. you can check those if you wish.

This. 15 years of hard physical labor in a quarry would sound like a more appropriate punishment to me.
