I simply don't have the energy to write a decent topic, but as always, this is my annual 9/11 remembrance thread, with links going back in time to the other threads.

On this day i will always remember the strangest day of school i ever had. the teacher's phone rang and she sat stunned for a minute or so straight. then she called the office and asked if it was ok to turn on the TV, she got a yes. we watched as the news played a loop of the smoldering tower and all sat stunned as a live feed came in of a second plane. our teacher abruptly turned off the TV but it was no use. the class was in an uneasy restless fervor and TV or no she realized all she could do was creep back to her desk and wait for the bell to ring. minutes before class ended an announcement came in for all students to head to the gym after class. i cant remember anything the principal said because he could hardly be heard over buzzing of middle school voices. students within walking or biking distance were discharged, and tho i lived across town my friend and i walked the few hour walk home rather than sitting huddled in the gym and waiting for the bus.

later that night riding around on bikes i recall saying elated to a friend "if the president declares war we'll have school off tomorrow". the fact that congress declares war or that we didnt even have a clear enemy to declare war on still give me a cringey sense of nostalgia.

years later now closure for the families may never come, the war itself still fizzles but looks to be drawing to an inconclusive end, coals of a burnt out fire not warm enough to dry your socks but with a handful of tinder could be roaring in no time flat. the one sense of closure we may yet be able to realize is that of healthcare for first responders from ground zero. i pray that we eventually do the right thing and find that closure not in half measure but in a cup overflowing.

We all sat and watched it on TV. Nobody pulled out a smartphone to record it. Nobody shared it on social media for likes. There werent any livestreams to see the carnage up close so vicariously. The country didnt instantly devolve into half the people praising the attackers and victim blaming the dead, the other half soapboxing on their bodies- at least not instantly. We just mutely watched

Its no excuse.
Yes and no, were the new generation which has nothing to do with old times.
But you boys still think russians are sowjets, so its no wonder you type shiit like this.
Just fck off dude and stop find excuses for war...

Makes me sad to hear shit like this

in america we're told we need to pay reparations because someone else's great great grandpa owned slaves. in germany you dont have to feel bad for your grandpa flipping on the showers for 100k jews.

I think I was only in grade 5 when this happened. They brought the TV into class and it was like the world froze for all the adults. I could not understand at the time why The Simpsons was not on at 5. Then my memory fades and I can just remember the hours and hours of news of just constant bombing runs over and over.
