This just creates a domino effect as some landlords rely on that rent money to make mortgage payments and being unable to evict means being unable to get legitimate tenants who can actually pay. Causes defaults with houses going back to big banks. Should be some nice foreclosure specials come January. cant wait to purchase a $800k home for $550k that was from the dude who was making $70k a year and living well outside his means in for four months. Should just need a little drywall and paint and then it’s ready for all the mortgage loans to help people get back on their feet

If was already difficult to evict someone in Canada because you have to go through the tenancy board which has a backlog. Even when the tenant is damaging the property RCMP will not remove them or even touch it.

If you're renting one or two units and you're not a commercial empire a bad tenant is an absolute nightmare. Talking from experience. There's a process and a lot of damage can happen during that process as well as lost income.

The tenancy board right now since I was just dealing with one provincial body is backlogged over a year's worth of work now. In one year a tenant could destroy your property and you may default on your mortgage.

yes, it absolutely sucks for landlords with asshole tenants exploiting the system, but imo that's the lesser evil compared to millions facing homelessness due to cutthroat landlords in this unprecedented economic and health crisis.

anecdotal evidence should not be the basis for political decisions. cherry picking (admittedly disgusting) examples of just one side is not a valid way of evaluating what good policy is.
you aren't even TRYING to argue based on statistics and facts, to have an honest look at both sides of it, you're just blatantly appealing to emotions and biases. that's why you're nothing but a hack.

Oh owning a few or even just one rental propery can be absolutly miserable. You get tossed into people's personal lives too. For instance have a friend who has a tenant going through devorce and both wife and husband are trying to get the lease in their name. Door just got kicked in, Ofcourse the tenants don't know who did it but I think it's obvious something got heated.

Total disaster.

Ofc alot of tenants or landlords are assholes, they both have to be properly punished.
It's your entire fault if your laws are not optimized.
