I haven't seen a thread about this so I figured we'd create one since a DNC one already exists.

It will be very interesting to see how the GOP responds to the 8 hour long infomerical that we saw last week. I expect Trump to do a much better job entertaining given his media experience. Here is the program so far:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/24/us/politics/how-to-watch-the-republican-national-convention.html

One notable thing is that the RNC platform is EXACTLY the same as 2016. Apparently, they didn't even update the dates!

To reiterate what I wrote earlier today in the Trump thread: it's really quite shocking how devoid of policy Trump's campaign has been so far. They cant seriously think that he can win this race when his only pitch is "I'll prevent the Democrats from implementing their agenda"...

Also... the DNC actually did a very good job with the digital format last week. In this regard, they set the bar relatively high, and I'm not sure if the RNC will be able to able to match it.

I mean, the DNC was okay. It was awfully boring and it could be broken down into 2 themes:
1. We are a REALLY big tent
2. Do your duty and vote Trump out of office

Yes, the DNC had SOME policy but it really came second to everything else. I guess that's fine since most people couldn't care less about that anyway.

If I was running things at the RNC, I'd really push this aspect of local control of schooling combined with giving them the resources to succeed. Come up with a green/yellow/red program with contingency with known metrics and plans for each. People WANT to return to normal and if you give them some sort of plan, it would go a long way. I'd also talk out of both sides of my mouth regarding law and order while being mindful of police brutality. Something along the lines of, "we are appalled at some of the senseless death in this country and we will do everything to make sure everyone is treated equally...but you can't have mass looting and vandalism. We need peace in order to have justice."

Agreed. Presenting themselves as the pragmatic common sense party running against the party of crazed ideologues and radicals would be perfect. The only problem with this message is that Trump is the wrong guy to be the figurehead of a "common sense"-campaign.

Back in 2016, voters perceived him as the more moderate candidate than Clinton, he hadn't committed serious mistakes as the chief executive yet, and he still needed to rely on intense negative partisanship and the unique hatred for Hillary to pull off a very narrow victory. I really cant see this pitch working on its own in 2020, considering all the baggage of botched execution the Trump administration carries around by now, and considering the fact that Biden is simply far less polarizing and hated than Clinton.

I'm sort of interested most in speeches by Melania and Tiffany Trump. The other Trump kids can just play the typical grievances over and over... but any attempt to portray Donald as a normal human being with empathy will be absolutely hilarious.

Hm, a lot of this is talk and similar to the Democratic platform. I'd like to see a little more than words and talk about where the funds will come from and what agencies will be used to implement it.

Agreed, there are some cross-party policies and I would like to hear more about these during the convention and debates. I hope they don't follow in the DNC's shoes and make the RNC some spectacle and actually discuss policy.
