Can't tell yet if it's just optics or there's meat on this but pretty good timing (from an election perspective) for Trump to come through on this. The suspending of settlements if it holds would be pretty massive. Curious to hear the orange man bad spins on this one tbh, lmk.

Israel and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to normalise relations, US President Donald Trump has announced.

A joint statement by Mr Trump, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Al Nahyan said they hoped the "historic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East".

As a result, they added, Israel would suspend its controversial plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

Until now Israel has had no diplomatic relations with Gulf Arab countries.

...He said Israel would co-operate with the UAE in developing a coronavirus vaccine, in energy, water, environmental protection and many other fields.

It marks only the third Israel-Arab peace deal since Israel's declaration of independence in 1948. Egypt signed one in 1979, and Jordan in 1994.

This is great news. I don't trust Israel to uphold their end of the bargain until they get a new government though.

I don't think you're going to get much "OJ man" bad takes outside of the anti-semites so you can probably ignore it.

Can't separate his promises/rhetoric and then the subsequent progress. He's moved the embassy and now under his admin those two are signing a treaty. I'm pretty sure the US had a pretty big part of the horse trading to make this happen.

I can find that out really easily if you'd like. One of my wife's family members is a high ranking diplomat in Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I didn’t either, but apparently he brokered the deal

The president, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed released a joint statement Thursday, after the three spoke “and agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.” The statement said that the “diplomatic breakthrough” was at “the request of President Trump,” and that Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace and focus its efforts now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer tweeted shortly after the agreement was announced saying: “A great day for peace! Israel commends the courage of MBZ for the historic decision of the UAE to join Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994) in making peace with Israel. Israel deeply appreciates all. @POTUS Trump has done to make this breakthrough possible. More to come!”

what does the embassy moving have to do with this UAE deal? what does trump have to do with the deal?

furthermore how much of middle eastern conflict does the UAE-Israeli conflict even amount to?

what factors make you "pretty sure"? all i can think of is Trump's vague statements that Kushner was working on it. if his administration played a key role im sure he'd brag specifically about what they did.

See statement above you.

Trump had nothing to do with it but these parties are bringing him into the conversations because...fill in the blank with your desired reason.

The embassy move is a part Trumps ME policy, pretty obvious this is also part of his ME policy since he's sharing it and praising and the party participants are mentioning him by name. Why is this contentious for you?

Trump being able to bring any group together and being involved in a contentious peace deal where details matter should be contentious to anybody at this point.
