I'd say it's important not to get lost in nationalist ideals, germans have a reminder they weren't always the good guys with the holocaust memorial and it's valuable that newer generations understand the mistakes of their past instead of believing their country has never done wrong.
I agree but most places in the world don't operate under western ideals imo, that's why we are better and i say this as an immigrant that came to the US.
I think
not talking about the atrocities is more common than it is to talk about them. Like it's remarkable the Russians even had the plaques for like 30 years. There's a lot of Polish-Russian resentment cropping up once again, in part due to Ukraine and Nato, that's why i think there's a move to take the plaques down.
