A thread on the clownery, buffoonery, and ridiculousness of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In the midst of a global health pandemic and during a time in which most every major college is converting to an online-only format for the upcoming Fall semester, ICE is enforcing a policy disallowing international students who are part of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program to continue their education as full-time online students. The program, according to ICE, only applies to in-person classes. So, if international students currently part of this program are attending a college that is going to be online this Fall, they must either:

1. Enroll in a different college to take in-person classes.
2. Can stay at their current college so long as they reduce their course load for online classes such that they are not taking a full-time's worth of online classes. They must either hope that their school is a mixed-method approach to the Fall and hope that they can take some amount of in-person classes. However, if their college is completely online then they are only allowed to enroll in 1 online class equivalent to three semester units.
3. Leave the country.

I second his dumb idea.

Better than concentration camps of mexicans on our rural county jails. Japanese internment all over. And i acknowledge that the past several presidents resided over governments that have created these concentration camps and nobody is on trial here, including the current potus for inheriting this shit mess. But we can stop internment and concentration camps of people we deem undesirable because of their demographics.




You don't even know what third world country means. Switzerland is a third world county by definition.

You generally strike me as a lot more intelligent in nuance than that. But I suppose you've jumped on the shit train to abolish everything because that appears to be a solution, which it isn't.

I like to explore a lot of ideas through debate as intellectual exercise. I've learned a lot from the fellows here just from disagreeing and pushing and seeing where it goes. I've pushed through several month suspensions and death threats here lol.

You're right, we can. But ONLY if we have strong, enforced immigration policies.

that's word. i've done the same. but immigration policy will inevitably have to be enforced to some degree, I agree it's not perfect. But abolition is not the answer here

And that's the common ground.

But i am against punishing people because of a broken policy. Fix the policy, don't feed the beast that is fighting for disharmony to continue. Treating people living under a broken policy as criminals is very fascistic, especially when it is drawn on racial lines for racial reasons.

Let the Dreamers stay, get them all paying taxes.

i doubt living in a jail house ice camp is worse than the warzone countries these folks are fleeing from. if it is - they should spread the news and stop pouring through the border illegally
