Came across this video and subsequently an article on the simpsons getting non white actors to play non white roles.

I don't particularly care that they are doing it but it is pretty insulting for white Hollywood liberals to think minorities are so fragile that this stuff actually offends us and that these changes are supposed to help in anyway.

I come from a country where buddhist extremism paved the way for murder, rape and mass graves by a government that is complicit in the actions of its military, and white folks in the west think being compared to apu is something I'd be offended by.

I think you've got it pretty damn good if stereotypical portrayals in cartoons is what offends you and you've got it even better if you get offended on behalf others in these situations.

If these hollywood liberals wanted to do something meaningful they could start by addressing the treatment of women in third world countries but they're too busy going after women like ayaan hirsi ali over "islamaphobia"

This is an on-going conversation in SJW spaces, in which white SJW are being called out for performative actions that aren't in line with the demands, needs, and concerns of BIPOC. In essence, these performative actions, like changing syrup bottle images, cancelling animated characters, and getting people to stop saying "master bedroom" let white SJWs feel like they've accomplished something.

It is definitely a hard line to walk where you are defending cultures from racist tropes and harassment, and not devaluing their ability to cope or defend themselves.

What the hell is a BIPOC. Isn’t it just easier to say a person’s race rather than lumping “everyone who isn’t white” into some group insinuating they’re all the same? Too many new acronyms my friend!

And yes the master bedroom/bathroom thing is hilarious. Will they take away Masters degrees next? What if i have a Masters degree in African-American studies? What then?

Apu was changed due to complaints by the Indian community, I remember the whining.
