The riots have now flared up in Atlanta, with the mob torching buildings and vehicles.

As seen in multiple videos of the encounter from bystanders, surveillance and bodycam all publicly available:
  • Rayshard Brooks falls asleep in his car blocking a drive-thru lane at Wendys while drunk driving
  • Police are called and talk with him for 27 minutes and are quite professional and courteous and ask him to perform a breathalyzer, which he does
  • As they try to cuff him after it proves he's drunk, he struggles violently, grappling with, throwing and punching the officers in the head
  • He grabs at the belt holster of one officer with a free hand but can't reach it, and manages to rip the taser out of the hands of one officer before he can use it
  • The other officer tazes him but he takes off running, carrying the stolen taser, with both cops chasing in pursuit
  • He turns, aims and fires the taser he stole at the officers, who return fire and critically wound him

After this, media and social media ran lots of high visibility posts in the next few hours saying an "unarmed black man was shot in the back and killed". He was still alive in surgery at the time, and was plainly armed with a stolen weapon after fighting cops, and was shot as he turned while shooting at officers, but that misinformation spread wide and far. He did die in surgery later, at least making that part accurate.

Since then:

  • Rioters formed a mob and torched the Wendys where the incident occurred, a brand-new restaurant too
  • The rioters spilled onto a freeway and torched several random vehicles parked along the road
  • Atlanta's police chief, a woman nobody had any issues with nor had protested yet, resigned preemptively
  • The family of Rayshard Brooks issued a statement denying a breathalyzer was used (its on video) and that no deadly force was warranted because its 'just a taser'
  • Atlanta's black mayor joined the race war and declared "“I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force and have called for the immediate termination of the officer,”
  • The officer who clearly did nothing wrong was indeed fired immediately
  • Local DA is "investigating" whether to pursue charges against the officers

This is what happens when you fuck up for too long. Even if you do the right thing (seems reasonable based on available evidence), the people aren't going to respond to it.

Or counterargument: This is what happens when you tolerate people doing the wrong thing for too long, demonize those who do the right thing, make it socially acceptable to make martyrs out of violent criminals, and give popular support to rioters and looters.

I'd prefer we don't go the Assad route, thank you very much. I have a solution for the martyr problem though. Quit killing people who don't deserve to die.

Society is a pressure system that is supposed to be kept in equilibrium. If the law presses inwards too hard, it crushes the people. But at the same time, the people are always pushing back, and if the law were removed, the balloon bursts. What has been happening here and for the past few weeks isn't an overbearing authority, its the opposite. A signal was sent that rioters and looters and arsonists have control of the streets and impunity to act lawlessly. If they thought the law would stop them, they wouldn't try it. But once precinct 3 was torched and stand-down orders given and democratic officials in control of governments lent their support to rioters, the rioters knew they could get away with it. And that pressure system burst.

The American people aren't the sunni fanatics of syria who need to be crushed with an iron fist of barrel bombs to make them submit. All it would take is a show of force and a few sweeps of mass arrests and imprisonment without the freebie cards and 'restorative justice' quackery pushed by liberals. When one of those mobs starts torching businesses, kettle them, arrest every single person and charge them all with a felony with 2+ years imprisonment. Watch how fast the riots die down around the country after that. Most of the people out rioting today are posting about it on their iphones, eating chipotle burritos, going home and watching netflix on their laptops. They aren't scratching at the desert sands and fucking goats. If their actions had consequences, they'd nope the fuck out.

Aaaaand Democrats can kiss their hopes of turning Georgia blue goodbye. This madness is getting out of hand, and voters in the Atlanta suburbs are not gonna like this kind of escalation over a murky-at-best case. This is not an egregious case of police violence like George Floyd, so my prediction is that tolerance for looting and arson over this case will be limited.

If you think the reaction is due to the past few weeks, you haven't paid attention. All the people who looted, rioted, etc. will see their day in court once they are caught. Law enforcement officials are scouring FB, Insta, etc. so I'm not particularly worried...especially since some of those dumbshits didn't even wear masks.

I predict that there will be at least one black guy who is killed by police and won't deserve it before the election. Hell, I predict that it will happen before the 4th of July.
