I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, so apologies if it's a repost, but this deserves its own thread. Justin Amash has proposed a bill in the House that would eliminate the Qualified Immunity protection currently enjoyed by the police. This is a step towards reforming the system under which we currently live. If the police don't have the backing of QA, then they would have to rethink the tactics and procedures they use in policing the public.

Qualified immunity is absolutely essential to the functioning of the police.

Total removal is not a viable option, but it does need to be reformed such that gross oversteps can be compensated.

It was posted somewhere in the 60+ page deep thread. I'm hoping someone offers up an amendment of some sort.

Woot!

something I agree with you on.

As if removing this will make policing better.

Two deaths in five years isnt a trend. People need to stop letting the media get them into a panic.

Total removal will result in police being handicapped in a way some people think holding them accountable for murder will.

We probably agree on most things. I just rarely engage on things I agree with people on. I'm the antithesis of the "yes and" from improv.

Removing the single largest barrier to police accountabillity won't make policing better. This just in.

The only solution would have been a non-divisive president, along with a responsible long term (at least 30 years) social-democratic plan. Lol.

Two deaths that were caught on camera as they were dying

How often is this happening when the cameras are off? The officers at the scene will submit a report with the usual 'resisting arrest' line and the boss will be like, yep, you're good.
