The uk makes a move to protect children from irreverisble medical experiments, i for one applaud this decision, what do our resident pardians make of this?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8247599/Under-18s-blocked-having-gender-reassignment-surgery.html

Under-18s will be banned from having gender reassignment surgery, equalities minister Liz Truss said yesterday.

While children are developing their decision-making capabilities, they should not be able to make irreversible choices, she said.

Currently, under-18s are allowed surgery but only with parental consent.

Ms Truss said: 'I believe strongly that adults should have the freedom to lead their lives as they see fit, but I think it's very important that while people are still developing their decision-making capabilities that we protect them from making those irreversible decisions.

'Of course some of these policies have been delayed by the specific issues around Covid but I can assure you that alongside the Covid work, our officials continue to do those things to make them happen.'

She said the Government's full response to reforms of the Gender Recognition Act will be published this summer. Addressing the Women and Equalities Committee, she outlined 'very important principles' the Government would set out in the act.

I fully agree with this decision and the reasoning the UK government gives.

Kids and teenagers who are still developing their skills and learning about the world, and who typically dont have a fully developed, stable personality yet, should not be able to make irreversible choices.

This is a clear government affront on the rights of parents to get their kids proper medical care. I for one am against further encroachment into the lives of the people.

Wait a second now.

I was circumcised. I had no choice in the matter. If I had, I wouldn't be.

Are you indicating that idealistic parents should have even more say over irreversible impacts over their children that their children are going to have to live with?

I mean, isn't part of the role of government to prevent people from mutilating other people without good cause?

Agree. circumcision is child abuse.

Outstanding! So... Should a 12 year old boy be able to have his balls cut off, his penis inverted, be injected with concentrated levels of estrogen that will cause prostate cancer later in life, when he does not understand the issue at hand? Should we be able to custom-build eunuchs in this day and age?

No, until we have the technology to do and undo it at will.

Ah, okay, so children should be free to mutilate themselves, preferably on the taxpayer's dollar, but only if they can unmutilate themselves later, yes?

Tell me, once you've removed a person's testicles, what technology replaces them?

Dunno, it doesn't exist yet.
But if we can for example clone a human then mind transfer them into a female version of themselves i wouldn't care if we allowed it for consenting 12 year olds, but as we can not do this i do not support sex change operations for children.
I do think puberty blocking has its place in some cases though.
