Donald Trump wanted to formally sign the checks himself, to have his name on the signature line. Can you believe this clown? Like he wanted to say, "This money came from me. It's my money that I'm giving to you."

It amounts to a vainglorious and pretentious attempt at political advertising. The stimulus package concept wherein checks would be delivered to individuals wasn't even his idea. It was Mitt Romney's and Josh Hawley's idea. Donald Trump wanted to use some horseshit payroll tax cut that you never would have felt the effect of.

He actually made it halfway to the finish line with this impertinence: his name will be placed in the memo section of the checks - an unprecedented act. The Treasury is supposed to be nonpartisan: previous attempts such as these (George Bush attempted it in 2008 for example) were shut down by the more scrupled and upright IRS commissioners at those times.

The sad reality is that some people will actually fall for this stunt; they'll see Donald Trump in the memo line and think it was him, it was all him from the beginning, you can only thank him for that measly check.

While you're at it you can thank him for the shit-show that is the current state of affairs.

I don't even understand what you're trying to say..

Only progressive-minded children use acronyms in the way that you just have.

Thanks for giving a small amount of my money back federal government.

Where is the other $20k you took from my family this year? Lol.

Mine was direct deposit no memo line just US Treasury.

Lol at attributing the idea to one or two politicians. A stimulus check isn’t some fresh new idea, dumb to give credit to anyone for it.

I kind of think the whole reason of having a massive slush fund would be to help people and agencies during emergencies like this.

He's a horrible person, through and through.

Presumably the paper checks will arrive several days after the direct deposits, so Trump's name on it might not be the political winner he's looking for.

They will arrive weeks to months later. They have millions to print and mail. Gonna take a loooooooong time

You're all assuming that those direct deposits will be a one-off thing. Imho, it's far more likely that there will be at least 2-3 such monthly payments. The paper checks for the April tranche might be shipped before the June payment. ^_^

Ideally Trump would probably want to wait until the elections :D
