When someone wraps their head around the true scope of what we are facing, it's no surprise they see this as the best option.

And oh by the way, things will be even worse in the US than in Germany.

I would just quit my job and have someone else face it. We have a few problems that are quite larger than this in scale. In fact this problem itself is more of a larger symptom of the problem if having a human population that is mostly geriatric.

This silver tsunami has been coming. And when things are kept alive artificially outside a state of nature this is somewhat life defeating in itself. There are whole buildings of people who are only alive because they are on a ventilator. They aren't even conscious. Buildings full of "keepalives" or what you guys would call vegetables outside long term care.

Its like when you go to a person's house and they have a 23 year old cat....you're not doing it any favors.

It's a cowardly way out. The task is daunting but if you are in a position of power do the best you can and try to have the most positive impact. The incumbent that has the job imo has much more expertise and knowledge on what to do in his position compared to a person who's been thrust into the role out of necessity.

No, that’s insane.

Police do not have finished investigation and the guy was ok-ish few days ago, but he may have worked too hard on this and potentially made some kind of weird burnout, this could be qualified as accident happening in some precise conditions.

I would not be a fucking asshole and open my mouth about this, criticizing things i never experienced to this point.

this. while certainly not impossible that he was 'just' overwhelmed with the current situation, i would not at all be surprised if other, personal factors played a role as well.

yes, but in japan this has a strong cultural component to it. taking your own life to restore honour to your name and family after personal failing doesn't have a tradition in germany.

i'd lie if i said it didn't remind me of that as well, but like i said before, i consider it rather unlikely and would assume there were some kind of personal reasons involved that had nothing to do with politics and covid-19. but again, we just don't know at this point.
