so i'm reading this article on fare evasion in and it looks like a city is voting to reduce consequences substantially for the crime of fare evasion because they feel bad for negroes who keep getting caught breaking the law.

personally i'm of the opinion that if you're the kind of person who jumps a turnstile then society would be better off if you stumbled and fell onto the train tracks and the train ran over you but in terms of a proportionate response i think a reduced civil fine is acceptable

reading further i found stories like this were supposedly the reason they are decriminalizing fare evasion, i don't know if this is supposed to tug at your heart string and make you feel sorry for this degenerate but i certainly don't feel bad for anyone who thinks they are above the law and gets punished for it

always been just a fine here i think it's like 100$, but of course our transit cops beat the fuck out of people all the time anyways, as will theirs continue to do

many are ex cops who may have been fired or left police forces for any reason, you never know what kind of nut you gonna run into. then again 'yes sir no sir' and simply not breaking the law in the first place goes a long way

every time a cop stops me for speeding i assume he's looking for a reason to escalate and give him none

Maybe because almost everyone in Canada is white?

Its dumb as hell to make fare evasion a criminal offense lol.

Decriminalizing fare evasion is basically broken windows in reverse. They built the light rail, Jessie's baby. They finally got it running, and only over a few bodies. It was above average inner city public transport. Then they decriminalized fare evasion and Metro Transit were given explicit orders not to issue tickets. You don't go near the light rail now. Can I blame it for the whole crime wave and jump in racist mob beatings by black youths? No not for the whole thing. But I think it was a real factor, the stepping stone to where we are now. Its a source of many horror stories. Its not like the bus system is any better with its fare evasion, and how many bus drivers and passengers have been beaten? A murder or two iirc.

You decriminalize the small stuff and you make a culture that tolerates crime and boils over into more serious offenses. But especially when the small stuff you're decriminalizing is giving offenders the ability to move around unchecked and prey upon new strangers.
