This is kind of scary, underpaying your property taxes by a small amount due to inability to pay bills or incompetence on the side of the govt can lead to your home being sold well under market value and the govt keeping the change. I'm surprised there isn't much of a fuss being created about this, seems so outrageous you'd think it'd get patched up quickly once people found out about it.

I can't imagine he won't be able to find a lawyer to take this case on contingency. Sounds like a slam dunk for unlawful seizure. Only question is if they will have to appeal high enough that it will destroy any winnings, and he clearly doesn't have the money to fight a protracted legal battle.

He's already a member of a class action being brought to the MI supreme court.

Sent it to a small YouTube channel I follow run by a practicing attorney in Michigan. Hopefully he reviews it.

"
A state law allows counties to effectively steal homes over unpaid taxes and keep the excess revenue for their own budgets.
"

Horrible they are catching the money by law AND probably maneuvering the sales / under-table with buyers.
I am so glad this kind of stuff doesn't happen here.
