The president will be giving a live address in coming hours from the White House, with the news leaked out in the past few hours that Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi was killed in a US special forces raid in Idlib. Apparently he had been living in a Bin-Laden style compound in the Turkish-held part of Syria rather than on the Iraqi border as previously thought, and after his identity was confirmed the US sent in a helicopter delta force raid that killed him. If details trickling out are to be believed, he and at least two of his wives detonated suicide vests but were still intact enough to confirm identities and presumably have DNA tested. After the raid was over, the US flattened his compound with airstrikes

It was a long way from being a cleric in Iraq to being a low level Abu Ghraib detainee to being the Al Qaeda head in Iraq to declaring himself Caliph Ibrahim of ISIS, back to watching his caliphate be methodically destroyed and going into hiding and finally getting turned into a pancake. So ends who was over his career the most powerful, well organized and influential figure in the reign of fundamentalist Islamic terrorism of the 21st century. He deserved it.

• No US servicemen were lost in the operation
  
• 11 children were rescued from the compound uninjured
  
• Baghdadi was cornered in a tunnel under the compound with dogs chasing him, having brought 3 of his children with him.
  
• Baghdadi blew up his suicide vest, killing the 3 children and collapsing the tunnel and blowing himself to bits
  
• Baghdadi's death is 100% confirmed from DNA testing on the bits being a positive match
  
• US forces knew the front door was booby trapped and entered by blowing a hole through the wall instead
  
• "Many" enemy fighters were killed in the raid, exact number will be released within 24 hours
  
• Enemy gunfire was encountered from the ground when helicopters were en route, and was destroyed from the air
  
• One canine was hurt in the operation, apparently not killed
  
• Russia was alerted to the operation immediately prior for deconfliction
  
• Trump did not alert any political figures in Washington until the raid was executed "because Washington is a leak machine"

he also just thanked "Russia, Syria, Turkey, Iraq and the Kurds" for foreign help in this operation
