I think you're confusing Newsom with his predecessor, Brown. Brown was pretty good overall but his insistence on building the rail was really misguided.

Spending 30B a year just to support illegal aliens isn't fiscally responsible. Then you get this guy: sanctuary state / pulls away troops that protect the border / free healthcare for illegal aliens

High speed rail is fiscally responsible if it's done right in places where population density is high. Why do you think so many countries are building high speed rail or have already done so

My memory is a little hazy lately. I thought the big issue was that Cali and Newsom were still accepting federal funding for the rail project, but instead nothing was being done for the project and they were just pocketing the money for who-knows-what?

Fair enough. I was merely pointing out that high speed rail is fiscally responsible although it clearly is a huge investment. But once you've invested that money you have something to show for it. Giving that money to illegal immigrants makes to problem worse, it will only attract more of them.
