Hi, I'm a student doing some preliminary research on political leanings among gamer communities.
If you'd like to participate, please post your country of residence and whether or not you self-identify as a socialist.
I'll tally up and post results afterwards.

Thanks!

What is the working definition of "socialist" you are using? It's become such a highly politicized word that it's basically meaningless without significant context.

If you are conducting research on the political leanings of gamers, why do you only ask one binary question (socialist, yes or no)?

Anyway, Germany, definitely not a socialist.

If you're interested in some more details: I do hold sympathies for the historical ideas of social democrats, but have nothing but disdain for what most of them have become in this day and age. And I am very anal about distinguishing socialism from social democracy.

Socialist here. I try to stay away from anything economics related. Only nerd losers think about that stuff.

Socialism is cool, it would be awesome if I got money from the government so I can spend in on kush and beer. Can’t wait! Bernie 2020

socialism = means of production are nationalized.
social democracy = generous welfare state and regulation rein in & alleviate the worst excesses of capitalism.

I'm just interested at this point in who would describe themselves as socialist, according to their own definition.

Keeping things simple and getting some rough data at this point, I have some refinements in mind for future questions.

Thanks for the response

Yes i am a social democrat. but i think the means of production of national resources should remain in the hands of the nation.

would you be ok with private corporations holding some means of production as long as they are not publicly traded or otherwise owned/influenced by foreign investors?

This is actually called state capitalism, where the state operates as the primary capitalist. Socialism is generally stateless.
