So, I don’t know if any of you are familiar with the waste procedures of Germany... but here’s a brief synopsis:
Most plastic and glass bottles come with an added cost that can be refunded once you recycle them (Pfand).
You recycle these bottles at local grocery stores and you cash out your statement at a register, kind of like coinstar.
This creates incentive for you you to recycle. You actually get a good amount of euro per bottle.
My personal favorite market is Edeka when it comes to recycling and buying goods.

In a flat or house, there are typically 3-5 different types of trash.
You sort your waste as you throw it away, accordingly, and can be fined if waste management services notice you keep misplacing or misusing the system.
The bags and containers are color coded.

I think these ideas are extremely effective.

Thoughts?

And if you’ve never heard of this stuff, let me know if you think it’s interesting and if the US should follow suite and do it better!

You should see some of the creepy locations I've gone to take my recycling in rural areas

Hasn't this existed in the cities a long time? I seem to remember seeing stuff like this many years ago when I spent some time in a few

pretty sure I've seen these as far back in 2004-2006 range in front of grocery stores but in the cities

I always live in mountain rural areas so I have to load once in a while and go find the dude that wears a shirt that barely goes below his moobs in some area that looks like they could film the texas chainsaw massacre

We have recycling bins in my city that we have to pay for and they are unsorted.

Japan does something similar because they simply don't have the land available to create landfills. The United States is a land of excess. Excess land excess money and it's going to take something pretty bad before we abandon that mentality.

My favorite part of Germany's success story is how only 13.1% of their energy usage comes from renewables, yet they've foolishly shut down their nuclear power plants and are drying up their domestic lignite production, with the result that 80.5% of their total energy still comes from oil/gas/coal yet 50% of their imported gas, 40% of their oil and 30% of their hard coal comes from Russia. And they've still got no LNG terminals.
so the german people get to put their plastic bottles into bins so they can rub around some euro-coins and feel good about themselves, while suckling at the mammon's teat out of a straw laid across the baltic to Vyborg

No, he didn’t say US.

Where do you get your BS from..?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/davekeating/2018/07/23/russian-gas-doesnt-power-germany-renewables-do/#275070094f8a

https://www.independent.co.uk/environment/renewable-energy-germany-six-months-year-solar-power-wind-farms-a8427356.html

Because here are two totally different sources showing the same numbers of 36% of renewable for Germany.

Stop reading Breitbart and look around.
Maybe you’re referring to how it had a spudder earlier. I know conservative/oil-backed companies and agencies started criticizing Germany.
But they fixed it the same year.

And as for citizens shuffelint euros, this give direct power to the people. This is an example of how we, the people, can make a difference.
