‘I hope Trump is assassinated’: A Missouri lawmaker faces mounting calls to resign after Facebook comment

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/08/18/i-hope-trump-is-assassinated-a-missouri-lawmakers-facebook-comment-leads-to-calls-for-her-resignation/?utm_term=.b86d26e1bf1b

In the current political climate, should Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal of Missouri, be forced out of office, allowed to resign, or just be allowed to say wtf ever?
IMO, with all the crazies running around out there, I think she should be forced out of office.

She claims she was just "venting". I'm wondering how many folks are oiling their rifles after this outrageous comment from a Senator no less.

she should be given the opportunity to resign before being fired if she doesn't.

Considering Missouri voted overwhelmingly for Trump, it's insanely hypocritical for most people calling for her resignation to do so.

Oh, sorry. Trump just "implied" assassinating Hillary with a "second amendment solution" so it's not nearly the same!

For my personal opinion, I think she, and other politicians who have made similar calls in only slightly more coded language, should step down.

Probably not many, since Democrats as a demographic tend to own fewer guns than Republicans.

Agreed. Calls to violence are not acceptable from either side of the isle.

Do not pretend the right does not come out in tears every time some conservative gets fired for saying something shitty.

There's actually an explicit condition in free speech laws dealing with threats that extends the threshold for threatening speech further around the president of the united states under 18 U.S.C. § 871
There are also rules of decorum and civility for sitting members of government

Free expression permits you the freedom to speak your opinions, but the government may still regulate the time and place in content neutral manners and protect from malicious speech that impinges upon other people's freedoms in the narrowest permissible scope.. Nazis are not permitted to make death threats, to act uncivilly or disruptively. If a Nazi were elected senator, he would not be allowed to impugn the motives of his colleagues, he must respect decorum.
