Root of the issue from what im reading is related to a nextar merger that is underway and would require fcc approval and they'll need to appease trump if the loyalists in the fcc are to approve.

Sure private companies have a right to do whatever they want but its rather explicit here as it was in the case of colbert that the trump admin is leveraging its capabilities to impact businesses to ensure that speech that trump doesnt approve of can be cancelled.

Second, this situation is just being used as an excuse to fire an employee whose ratings have been declining year after year. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Research the FCC and try to understand why it was established in 1934. Broadcast television has a completely different set of rules/obligations than cable.

I expect it was due to a combination of factors.

Political influence and failing ratings being the primary two.

Now again though how a these people can scream about people deserving it because of their insensitivity to Charlie while Fox can basically next day go on and say homeless people, mentally ill and poor people should be killed via involuntarily injection.

Well that is far, far worse than insensitivity twords Charlie I'd say and yet it's just an average day on fox news, most watched news network in the USA baby.

What Jimmy Kimmel said WAS NOT extreme, but it is a symptom of the disease rotting inside the heart of the United States. There is no indication that things will moderate, given that both Democrats and Republicans are too entrenched and stuck down their respective rabbit holes. Biden outright called Trump supporters “garbage,” and in recent days Trump said, “I couldn’t care less” when asked about mending the nation's polarization.

So by all means, defend hate speech, rail when free speech is curtailed — but you also have to swallow that every time someone says something nasty about the other side, it’s just one more dent in the Titanic’s hull.
