Just after the end of Easter Sunday 2025, Pope Francis has died, presumably from his chronic lung disease and pneumonia.
The Argentinian Jesuit set the Vatican on a significantly more liberal and conciliatory trajectory for the church, seeking to uplift the poor and softening the approach to the most controversial topics like abortion and homosexuality if not changing policy, but always with a measure of restriction and avoiding embracing activism. He even brushed briefly up towards bridging the schism, but this notably fell apart after the Ukraine war. And of course, he spent much of the past few years advocating for migrants and refugees which pitted him firmly against the wave of opposition across the western world.

This is a good thing, the antipope heretic is dead, but who knows what kind of clown show could follow.
Hopefully they will pick one of these African cardinals that really hates homos, and migrants.
I mean, lets be honest, they are going to pick a black guy.
At least then all those Catholic democrats would have to just sit down and shut up, about a complete 180.

Pope Francis was an example of decency and genuine humanism which global elites so acutely lack. So rare today, hard to identify any prominent equivalents at all

I remember he gained a lot of popularity early on for his embrace of the sciences on leading issues from the early 201#'s such as climate science topics. At least that was how he was portrayed early on before misstepping on social issues in contrast to core Catholic principles

Hulu will have a biopic live on their service within a day. its always creepy how quick a documentary pops up when a big celeb dies.

They had a whole month to get ready- he was a goner anyway. But hey, at least he timed it like a pro: kicked the bucket on Easter (Catholic/Orthodox unity!), and, just for laughs, on the birthday of a certain mustachioed "artiste"… classic Argentine Catholic move.

I'm a Christian (protestant) and always found the elevation of one man by Catholics to be kind of inappropriate. By what authority can he dictate to billions what is appropriate to believe when it comes to clear cut subjects in the Bible i.e. homosexuality or abortion for example.

Sola scriptura
