The United States has long prided itself on being a stronghold for free speech and open access to information. Recently proposed legislation targeting Chinese apps (TikTok, DeepSeek) runs in the opposite direction of the self acclaimed freedom. Should the U.S. government have the power to restrict access to foreign-developed technology based on security concerns, or does this infringe upon the fundamental freedoms that define American democracy?

Classic liberals traditionally argue for minimal government interference in individual liberties, including access to information and technology. Is banning DeepSeek a necessary precaution, or does it set a precedent for broader government control over what technology citizens can use?

Soon they will ban Marvel Rivals , Black Myth Wukong.

If China is Japan...with 50K US troops in their country and being the front line as a " first island chain" against the Russians.
And the Chinese bent their knees like the Japanese did during the mid 80s where the Japanese financial boom almost took over and leap frog the United States ( check link).
And the Chinese allow USAID, NED or whatever lobby and NGO groups into their country to help spread American Democratic and liberal ideals.

I can 200% swear to you that Tik Tok , DeepSeek..whatever that is from China will not be banned.

China isn’t Japan, and the U.S. sees it as a way bigger threat—economically, politically, and militarily. That’s why bans on Chinese tech keep gaining traction. Will they actually follow through? It depends. The government is clearly ramping up pressure. If an app gets big enough and Washington thinks it’s a security risk, they’ll find a way to crack down—whether through outright bans or making it harder for Americans to use.

The question remain though; Is it acceptable, in your eyes, if they follow through?

I don't think you understood my point.

Let me repeat.. If China is exactly like Japan and I meant every word I said.

1. US troops in their land to help them with " security "
2. No Nukes
3. Follow and take orders from the United States

There will be no ban on Tik Tok or Deep Seek.

Or you let Elon Musk or Jared Kushner buy up the Tik Tok USA shares for cheap holding 70% of the company. Tik Tok will be back online within 24 hours.
