CNN:

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in an unannounced late-night TV address Tuesday, accusing the country’s main opposition party of sympathizing with North Korea and of anti-state activities.

Yoon did not say what measures would be taken. He cited a motion by the opposition Democratic Party, which has a majority in parliament, to impeach top prosecutors and reject a government budget proposal.

“To safeguard a liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements… I hereby declare emergency martial law,” Yoon said in the TV address.

Biggest red flag is referring to North Korea as "communist", which they aren't at all. seems like a clear mud slinging attempt of McCarthyism. i dont know anything of the situation but when you start claiming the opposition supports the Kims and that the Kims are communist it signals a BS meter for me.

It might be some sort of political power grab but i agree pointing the finger towards NK doesn't add up. The probability of NK having any serious influence on SK opposition is silly, this is real low hanging fruit.

Opposition has 192 seats, so the opposition voted to reverse. The President's party didn't attend.
