The DOGE will be headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, partnered with the OMB and White House to provide advice and guidance on other departments of government to slash waste and fraud.
Its unclear if the DOGE will continue to operate as a federal auditor past 2026;

Honestly this is a really fantastic outcome. Elon Musk showed us that when needed you could effectively run a company cutting significant fat. I worked for the federal government and have seen first hand the amount of waste, and the general 'use it or lose it' mentality when it comes to left over dollars. It's time to trim the bloat and incentivize leanness. Even if this results in like 10-15% reduction over the next 4 years it's going to be worth it. Realistically though, they need to aim more for like 20-30+% but stagger it.

This might actually cause a recession in short term but likely to be offset by deregulation/lower taxes on private sector.

Sounds great to me, let's hope they work top down to fire the biggest inefficiencies first like all the corrupt Congress members. Leave the non corrupt ones to make the country better.

Also I know for a fact that the government and their customer facing systems such as social security are decades behind industry so they need to modernize systems as well.

Exact name match for social security enrollment is something industry was doing better 2 decades ago...

Consolidation of social welfare programs from over 100 would be logical as well. Not elimination just simplification and consolidation of systems and programs.

Modernizing federal/state databases and web portals seems like low hanging fruit. They are unreasonably incompetently engineered with astronomical costs, makes denver baggage systems look efficient.
Obama would have benefited from having a Doge of his own before the ACA tried to roll out marketplaces. Ever tried to use one of those? lmao
