Combine liberal drug policies with the idea that minors are old enough to make decisions for themselves and this is the outcome

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/bc-teen-overdose-brianna-macdonald

The family of 13-year-old Brianna MacDonald is advocating for changes to treatment for addicts who are minors. MacDonald is thought to have died from an overdose last month in an Abbotsford, B.C. homeless camp.

Her grieving parents say their ongoing attempts to get Brianna help for her addictions and mental health issues were ignored. They say the system failed Brianna when she was discharged from a care facility despite repeated requests from them to keep her there and administer treatment.

...

The family alleges that despite her age, Brianna was able to obtain Fraser Health drug paraphernalia including needles, crack pipes and pamphlets on how to use safely. Fraser Health is the largest regional health authority in B.C.

The family has a plastic bag containing the paraphernalia marked Fraser Health, says Charles. “But if a child can’t vote, can’t buy liquor or sign a legal document, how can they get their hands on illicit drug paraphernalia,” he asks.

Fraser Health has said their records indicate only Narcan was provided to the family for Brianna. Also known as Naloxone, the medication can reverse an opioid overdose.

....

The family begged the hospital to keep her and provide treatment. Instead, Brianna was discharged. The family was told Brianna had the right to decide for herself, despite being just 12 years old.

And even though Brianna had “over 20 documented suicide attempts,” adds Charles.

You should chime in about Canada's health care failures in this thread.

It's the same reason. Bring in millions of low value uneducated scammer third world slaves from the butthole of the world and look what happen when you don't spend more money on Healthcare and great doctors/nurses and look what happen. They fired a shit load of em during the Covid fiasco for not taking an experimental jab.

What is the perceived issue here, and what do you think should have been done instead?

I'll do the thinking for you; perceived issue is that promoting the use of drugs to minors or people at all cause scenarios where people can overdose and die instead of getting treatment. There are many implications as to why this is applied in this specific scenario, as its the parallel of other political issues such as treating the illness for mental disorders that are now trying to be promoted as the norm.

If they let up here, they also have to let up on treating gender liquidity as the norm and actually go for treatment for minors for their biological sexs' gender, instead of producing drugs and affirming their current cultural phenomon that they are pushing.

I would be shocked if a Canadian hospital sent a 13 year old home with needles regardless how clean. Never heard of such a thing happening here (us)

Narcan of course they will send home with and is/has been standard

You need more to the story and will have to review records Including actual discharge summary carefully. At first glance I am skeptical of the alleged story. 20 suicide attempts and not committed is a red flag
