Putin's trip to the DPRK featured the signing of a new mutual defense pact, echoing the language of Article V of NATO but the exact details kept purposefully vague
North Korea even as a reclusive minor power is now supplying Russia with perhaps more artillery shells than all the US and EU has provided Ukraine, on top of Russia's full blown war machine
China has sided with Russia by way of assent if not alliance, having given the former to Kim to provide weapons to kill Europeans even if China won't do so directly
And now while Putin makes his way to an unaligned Vietnam, the real outside player to refuse to side with the west was India
An alignment of world powers against the west is no longer a theoretical, its a occurring in real time. Like most major shifts, it goes slow at first, then fast, and we're right in the middle.

Countries like Russia, China, North Korea, India, South Africa, Mexico, etc have had many reasons to divide and infight, but rather than the west exploiting these fracture points and keeping the world divided to our benefit, we're uniting them- economically, diplomatically, and worst of all, militarily. North Korea with its nuclear weapons will now have access to advanced Russian missile technology and pose a true ICBM threat, not a 'flip a coin if any could reach hawaiii'. Iran won't be far behind, and the western allies aren't having much better luck in their proxy war with Iran in the red sea than against Russia in Ukraine.
There's a new axis around which the countries of the world are rotating and its no longer Rome to Berlin

Russia burn through money it have, making nothing on oil trade, run deficit in budget bad inflation. Now ally with concentration camp. China want nothing of this. Iran standalone player just make profit if possible.
What alliance! The Broke, The dumb and The cornered.

despite the optics of 2 leaders the west hates getting together i dont see how anyone can read this as bad. north korea wont actually bolster the russian armed forces, so it doesnt really strengthen russia. and no one is going to invade north korea with an arsenal of weapons aimed directly as Seoul. so a defense pact is moot. what isn't moot is a normalization of relations between russia and a country that's deeply impoverished and in need of aid. hopefully some lines of trade can be opened to north korea if only to help feed it's people. as the country starves the people suffer more and more. maybe putin can pull them out of the famines and brown outs they've faced recently, they have natural resources to trade im sure putin would be interested in.

It seems that Putin has no other choice than downgrading his country to deal with Kim Jong Regime.
South Korea says will reconsider providing weapons to Ukraine. I guess it's another master move.

Regarding China or India: let's not forget they see their own interests first (mostly economic, developpment) and it clearly does not include to side with smelly zombies.

china has been supplying north korea with enough supplies to not riot for decades. if a revolution ever happened in north korea 1 million or so refugees would rush across their border.

could very well be. depends on the response imo. south korea could rush to tell people to come south, the army could surrender or fight to the last man. china could rush in and blockade, the usa could come in. its a lot of moving parts. in any case china has a serious vested interest in not letting north korea fail. as do japan and south korea, but china is even ahead of japan.

Good point and agreed. So much in our world today is framed as adversarial with people primed to wish the ‘other’ side to do bad or implode or whatever.

Ultimately if less North Koreans are malnourished as a result of this we as the global village should laud that.

The most desperate despots on the planet. Reeks of desperation.

Further highlights the exact opposite of OP's claim. Putin tried to make BRICS an augmented military alliance opposed to the US/Europe; When in reality most dealings with Russia from BRICS countries is purely transactional.
While huge parts of China and Indias trade is based on European and Western markets.
Not to mention the fractious relationship between India and China.

Putin is forced to go begging to North Korea for low quality artillery shells from a regime that has starved millions of its own population.
Wonder how Russian oligarchs will feel about holidaying in Pyongyang as opposed to Monaco or London.
