So im reading up on the history of Palestine and it looks like there was an incident where large numbers of palestinians were forced to leave their homes by the jews.

The jewish pov seems to be that this was a response to attempts by the arabs to exterminate the jews.

This is turning into a rabbit hole as dig more and more, anyone got more insights on this incident?

Yes

The Palestinian inhabitants sided with Adolf Hitler during World War II and enthusiastically participated in the Holocaust as you mentioned

Losing major wars has consequences, in addition to this, millions of Germans were expelled from their homes in Europe

There is a lot of history to sift through and it is a very heated/divisive topic so I wouldnt recommend taking anyone at their word. That said I could recommend a few topics to read about to give you a broader understanding of it.

1. Zionism
2. World War 1 (Balfour declaration and The McMahon–Hussein Correspondence)
3. British Mandate of Palestine
4. Arab revolt in Mandatory Palestine
5. British 1939 White Paper
6. WW2
7. Jewish insurgency in Mandatory Palestine
8. End of British Mandate.

There is a lot to cover there but it gives some valuable context if you are looking to learn more about the conflict. I've done quite a bit of reading about this so if you have some more specific questions I might be able to provide some answers/sources.

The Jews lived in historic Palestine for centuries and only had a serious issue with them by then because of their intent to create a Jewish state and forcibly depose the native population in the process so naturally the Palestinians joined forces with the people who would assist in stopping that, their disposition towards the Jews was not the same as the Nazis it was a nationalist concern not a racialist genocidal one. You dismissing the Nakba away with "might makes right" they had it coming is so obviously stupid and immoral, obviously not every Palestinian was a part of the militia that allied with hitler and if you think that justifies displacing civilians then would you say the same if Arabs got together an army that pushed out the Israelis?

Also none of this really matters to the present day issue, it helps people understand the living history and anger palestinians have but the current crisis doesnt revolve around the Nakba it more has to do with the west bank settlements and denial of a Palestinian state by Israel & the U.S despite the entire arab world and the Palestinians wanting one

Have the jews and Muslims in that area of the world ever gotten along? Asking for a friend.
