Hello. Just wondering what the family law is like where you live, and whether it influences your decision to want to, or not want to, get married.

Here, in a marriage, one spouse is liable for the debt the other spouse took on during the course of their marriage. Also, unless a prenup was drawn up, one could lose half of his/her assets in a divorce. And the worse thing is that I've heard that prenups have been overturned in court before, so even if you had a prenup, you could still get your clock cleaned. This is very scary, and is a big reason that I don't ever want to get married. I don't have a lot of assets, but I have a lil bit of money, if I lost half of it, I would be devastated.

I know that in some places in the US, men are required by law to pay child support to his ex-wife and his kids. If he can't pay for whatever reason, let's say he lost his job, which is understandable, he goes to jail. I really think this is BS and needs to be changed. Otherwise men will all be too scared to get married.

are you a white male?

the biggest issues related to marriage and kids are economic. basic living needs + home ownership are no longer affordable on a single person's income and even on two full time incomes can be out of reach. Two full time working parents is far from ideal while raising a family, economically the idealized version of a family home is not realistic anymore

Hi Major, thanks for replying.

I agree with you that two incomes are pretty much necessary for a family just to survive, and that this is less than ideal. So how do you think we can fix this? I personally feel that one parent (preferably the mother) should stay home to raise the kids. It's just more natural and is better than letting strangers (aka daycare) raise one's kids. I thought about raising wages across the board so that only the man needs to work but I think this would lead to inflation.

Do you have a better solution?

the government needs to stop printing money endlessly so working class people without assets can actually gain wealth as the rate of increase of wages does not match (and cannot match with the printing of money reasonably) the true rate increase of inflation.

if you do not have assets you increasingly will not be able to own assets, the gap continues to increase year over year

will the government stop doing this? no constant QE and printing is not the solution to inflation
