I saw at least 1 movie with this kind of scenario and thought about it 1 time reading some UFO article... At least a decade ago, It's a classic:
Humans evolved so much that they lost their... humanity... Like emotions, love, desire for life etc... And even their reproductive hability, so they are coming back into the past (which is TODAY) to understand why and how they lost their... Humanity.

/e But "created by ourself" is pushing things further; like traveling before humanity start and create it ? Why ? This is not needed since it already happened.

well, we understand that in black holes time is warped
so time warpage is in some theory possible even if we don't currently understand how
so maybe osme day we learn time warp in theory and then tried to translate it into practice
likely such a thing would need almost infinte energy, so perhaps only an atom --> ergo the beginning of the big bang, all coming from a single atom.
