Ever see videos of zombie like drug addicts hunched over in cities all over the US, ranging from San Francisco to Philadelphia? That's Fentanyl, and it's an extremely addictive and deadly drug. The DEA calls it "the single deadliest drug threat our nation has ever encountered."
Much of it comes from Mexico, and it's made and trafficked into the US by cartels. Last year ~14k pounds was seized at the border alone (which most likely is a tiny % of the overall that actually made it through our porous border illegally.
In response, Republicans have floated the idea of designating the cartels as terrorist organizations with implications of actually going after them in Mexico, similarly to our war on terrorism across the globe.
As of March:

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he will introduce a bill laying the groundwork for President Biden to use US military force against Mexican drug cartels.
“I’m going to introduce legislation, Jesse, to make certain Mexican drug cartels foreign terrorist organizations under US law and set the stage to use military force if necessary to protect America from being poisoned by things coming out of Mexico,” he added.

During a news conference on Thursday, Lopez Obrador said his government was “not going to permit any foreign government to intervene in our territory, much less that a government’s armed forces intervene”.
“In addition to being irresponsible, it is an offence to the people of Mexico,” he said, adding that Mexico “does not take orders from anyone”.
Since then Biden authorized 1500 active military personnel to help out with the border (mostly in a supportive manner not active engagement across the border) while various republican states committing more national guard & other men resources to Texas.

I'm not sure if I'm supportive of this or not (leaning to no because Lindsey Graham is a huge piece of shit so hard to align myself on any issue with him). But then again, how do you actually stop the flow of fentanyl? Are we going to see drones and our military bombing cartels in the next few years? Thoughts?
