Ever see videos of zombie like drug addicts hunched over in cities all over the US, ranging from San Francisco to Philadelphia? That's Fentanyl, and it's an extremely addictive and deadly drug. The DEA calls it "the single deadliest drug threat our nation has ever encountered."

Much of it comes from Mexico, and it's made and trafficked into the US by cartels. Last year ~14k pounds was seized at the border alone (which most likely is a tiny % of the overall that actually made it through our porous border illegally.

In response, Republicans have floated the idea of designating the cartels as terrorist organizations with implications of actually going after them in Mexico, similarly to our war on terrorism across the globe.

As of March:

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he will introduce a bill laying the groundwork for President Biden to use US military force against Mexican drug cartels.

“I’m going to introduce legislation, Jesse, to make certain Mexican drug cartels foreign terrorist organizations under US law and set the stage to use military force if necessary to protect America from being poisoned by things coming out of Mexico,” he added.

Mexico's government has rebuffed and denounced this call to arms and views it as infringing on it's sovereignty.

During a news conference on Thursday, Lopez Obrador said his government was “not going to permit any foreign government to intervene in our territory, much less that a government’s armed forces intervene”.

“In addition to being irresponsible, it is an offence to the people of Mexico,” he said, adding that Mexico “does not take orders from anyone”.

Since then Biden authorized 1500 active military personnel to help out with the border (mostly in a supportive manner not active engagement across the border) while various republican states committing more national guard & other men resources to Texas.

This seems like an interesting topic and I feel some climax is coming. I'm not sure if I'm supportive of this or not (leaning to no because Lindsey Graham is a huge piece of shit so hard to align myself on any issue with him). But then again, how do you actually stop the flow of fentanyl? Are we going to see drones and our military bombing cartels in the next few years? Thoughts?

I can only imagine that folks like Graham have been inspired by El Salvador's Bukele.

And the other issue is that Fentanyl is being increasingly mixed with Xylazine to form "Tranq", and I believe like 90%+ of the supply tested in the Kensington Avenue area of Philadelphia is Tranq rather than just Fentanyl.

GOOOD! They are terrorists! Its sickening, my home is being FLOOOOOOOODED with this crap, and zombie-like behavior is everywhere, even the police department had to fire someone for trafficking fentanyl!

and Mexico would try and resist, since their government officials are corrupt and probably controlled by the cartels...

I would be supportive of it, but we are no longer a country that can be expected to occupy another nation successfully. We haven't been since Korea. Until we rectify that in ourselves, we have no business going overseas.

You can thanks China

Fentanyl trafficking in the United States: four companies and eight Chinese nationals charged, in a country where addiction to this opiate is raging

One such company is accused of smuggling in "more than 200 pounds of precursor chemicals" in an attempt to manufacture enough fentanyl "to kill 25 million Americans," U.S. Attorney Merrick Garland said on Friday.

The announcement was made with great fanfare by the Attorney General, Merrick Garland, during a press conference on Friday, June 23: four Chinese companies have been charged in the United States in connection with the trafficking of chemicals used to make fentanyl, a dangerous opiate.

Eight employees and managers of these companies are also being prosecuted, and two of them have been arrested, he added, stressing that this case was a "first" for American justice.

One of these companies is accused of having, on its own, "smuggled into the United States more than 200 kilos of chemical precursors for the purpose of manufacturing more than 50 kilos of fentanyl, an amount sufficient to kill 25 million Americans “, he underlined.
Fifty times more potent than heroin

Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate fifty times more potent than heroin, is now the number one killer of Americans aged 18 to 49.

While China banned fentanyl exports to the United States in 2019, a move hailed by Donald Trump's administration at the time, experts say the country has continued to supply fentanyl precursor chemicals, among others to Mexico and Central America, where cartels manufacture the drug before delivering it to the United States.

In the past, Beijing has denied any responsibility for the fentanyl overdose crisis in the United States, instead blaming American society and its pharmaceutical companies.

In the United States, deaths linked to opiate overdoses have jumped in recent years, going from 69,000 in 2020 to 81,000 in 2021 and 110,000 in 2022. Recently, Washington had already sanctioned several Chinese companies accused of having a role in drug trafficking.

we'd spend billions, maybe even a trillion, chasing them into central/south america. its not like there's something integral to Mexico itself to produce this.

spend billions at the southern border and they'll stress the ports. its a cat and mouse game.

Blizzard never beat diablo 2 botters, and we wont beat cartels. at least not without the cooperation of mexico's govt itself. Even then we'll be chasing them all over the place forever.

we know for a fact that state organisations like the CIA are part of the narcotics smuggling so its almost cute how these people pretend to care
