Hello. With advances in AI, now more and more jobs are being replaced by robots or machines. For example, self-checkout machines at grocery stores. I remember talking to my brother, who defended his choice to study math and physics because he thought mathematicians and physicists would be very difficult to replace with machines. However, I feel that to me, it's only a matter of time. Time allows AI to be smarter and smarter, right now they replace brain-dead jobs however who is to say that one day there won't be AI that is so smart, it can replace a philosopher?

Anyway, just wondering if your job is vulnerable to being replaced by AI. And for the people who have been replaced, what should we do about them as a society?

My job makes thorough use of automation and will continue to do so, but fundamental things like mixing chemicals to put in the machines will always need human hands.

I used to say that my job (building houses/mowing lawns) would never get replaced but ohhhhhboooy was I wrong. They are now 3d printing houses lol plumbing and electrical in, it's crazy. Even the advancement they're doing with excavators is nuts they runs themselves and dig via computer and all this before AI even gets on the scene.

I think we are all f*cked lol
Only a handful of elites o believe will benefit from ai and technology in general.

I work in high throughput human biology research. So it only exists with automation, or else it's so expensive that it's not worth it.

Yeah the real issue is going to be the ownership. In the 60's it was hypothesized that with production gains we could all live like kings only working 20 hours a week. Well, the production gains happened but the wealthy siphoned it all away to themselves and now we're worse off.

We could literally have done all the same moves and just paid the workers trillions more over those years. Instead fat cats sat on their asses making trillions.

Perhaps those who are laid off from their tech jobs due to AI can learn to mine coal

They will be too old. Republicans want that job reserved for 8 year olds.

And your brother is right about math & physics. It is mathematicians who create the AI in the first place after all.

AI seems to be very good & will improve at doing more menial-level computer work. It also seems really good for certain aspects of writing, given that the writing isn't unique prose. For example, AI will be very good at writing shitty scripts for churning out TV shows and movies

With how things are going you're right we're going to have alot of child hard labour in the near future, once the current aging working generation is gone
