It has become apparent that multiple justices on the supreme court has been abusing its position of authority to behave in blatantly corrupt ways.

Let's catalog supreme court scandals here, for posterity.

Video posted in discord by catalogging a few examples of skirting the rules

Scalia - Took 70+ undisclosed hunting vacations that were undisclosed despite being provided by gun industry advocatres, fossil fuel executives, etc. When challenged they were not investigated or taken seriously in any way. These were illegal.

Thomas - Was bound by law to recuse himself from the Jan 6th case due to his wife's involvement. This was illegal. Also accepted private jet travel which is not covered under "personal hospitality" for gifts when taking trips with people connected to organizations before the court, including Leonard Leo who's entire purpose was to turn the court in favor of right wing billionaires.

The Supreme Court specifically has taken pretty extreme and probably illegal steps to halt their own investigations, and have been defended as being basically beyond reproach.

I think that needs to change and is worth making a separate thread for.

Sotomayor received $3.6 million from Random House for her books. When Greenspan v Random House reached the the supreme court, Breyer recused himself because he had similarly received money from Random House for his books, but Sotomayor did not recuse herself
This was the court case by the guy who accused the movie makers & author of The Social Network of plagiarizing him after rejecting his identical book about zuckerberg
of course, this is not a real issue to anyone who doesn't automatically assume malicious intent by every actor in the opposing camp. But as long as those are the rules we're playing by thanks to ProPublica, well this is a whole lot more direct than blathering about Harlan Crow & Clarence Thomas. She took money from Random House, then she voted in a case in which the supreme court refused the case against random house and gave them a win.

now technically one facet of the story conspicuously absent is how sotomayor voted in that case, because scotus only shows whether the court as a whole denies cert, and whether justices recuse themselves, but not how each justice voted. But its a pretty safe bet she voted to dismiss, because that was just the logical outcome in a fair court case anyway and sotomayor isn't corrupt

How do we know about those payments from Random house? I'll wait while you figure it out.

Same way we know about Thomas setting aside $6000 for his grandnephew in a trust, which he disclosed.

To be clear since goom has turned tail and run away when pressed for facts as usual, Thomas did not disclose Harlan Crow paying multiple years of private education for his grand nephew. He disclosed a one time 5000 payment from another person, and this financial relationship between him and crow has been found in the Bankruptcy filing from the school.

Unless your contention is Thomas tried to actively hide the relationship with crow and disclosed it as a gift from Earl and Louise Dixon. What I think it really shows is he was aware he had to disclose this type of gift by disclosing one but none of the others.
