I cant fathom why someone would want to or take the risk of having kids outside of a committed relationship but im feeling I may be behind the times on this topic.

How would our resident pardians feel about having children outside of a committed relationship?

If the couple splits up, then the child could become father or motherless, which of course is bad. However, with the way our society is, this can still happen even if the couple is married.

Depends really. People who want children intentionally and outside of relationship are usually independant personal choice types that you have to ask them. But usually there are unintentional/unplanned.
A child is like an all in investment that you better ride out the good and the bad for the next 18 years. Many people change their mind and life trajectories for billion of reasons and it becomes a toss up should they force themselves in an unhappy relationship vs keeping the child happy. Personal happiness usually overrides personal sacrifice even if it's your own progeny.

One could say the initial marriage vows are weak and not taken seriously. One needs to make a pretty strong commitment to ride out and resolve the bad. Only when there is absolutely no other way and the partner clearly breaks the agreement without any compromise. Marriage is a big commitment you can't say I kind of do.
Otherwise marriage should be put into 5 or 10 year terms that you renew your contract instead of life commitment.
