Now that Macron is clearly stating that the EU should stop supporting US foreign policy regarding China and Taiwan, what does this mean for the US and NATO?

Is popular MSM narrative that NATO has only become stronger thanks to Russia and China still holding up?

Quote
With no word of appreciation for the massive American investment in Europe's security, especially since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the French leader was eager to express his own voice on Taiwan. "The worse thing would be to think that we, Europeans, must become followers on this topic and take our cue from the US agenda and a Chinese overreaction," he said, conveying the feeling that the US was behind the current escalation between Washington and Beijing. "If the tensions between the two superpowers heat up, we won't have the time nor the resources to finance our strategic autonomy and we will become vassals whereas we can be the third pillar if we have a few years to build it," he added. "We do not want to be drawn into a bloc versus bloc logic."

Strange. I can only see two reasons for this...

1. Macron is insane
2. The EU really thinks the US is being too strict with China.

Macron's expression in the top and bottom pics. Xi's expression in the bottom pic. I'd love to know what they were thinking in those pics.

I think Macron is basically telling the US that he does not want to cripple his country over a (trade or shooting) war with China.

It proves that the situation is really bad right now and getting worse by the day.

The sanctions didn't cripple Russia, that "gas station" is outperforming the combined West when it comes to weapons and ammunition and Ukraine is slowly bleeding white despite all aid provided by the West.

IMO Macron realizes there's no end in sight, this war could go on for years and the EU simply can't handle a conflict with a powerhouse like China.

The Russian war is pretty much irrelevant. it is a microcosm, or dry run, as to what would happen if the same scenario played out in Taiwan. When you look at the current cost of living crisis, and know its not going away for years to come, and then you see someone wanting to make it even worse, for literally everyone on the planet, I think that the French leader is quite sane when he says "wait hang on a minute here, im not sure this is a good idea".

ye i misspoke, what i mean is, we are in a shit position and we dont need to be swimming in shit for the next 20 years. i accept your position and agree with the overarching sentiment : "IMO Macron realizes there's no end in sight, this war could go on for years and the EU simply can't handle a conflict with a powerhouse like China"
