Last year several activist groups, funded by Getty Oil family appeared in the EU/UK protesting new oil developments (Just Stop Oil / Extinction Rebellion).

You may have heard about them throwing paint on pictures and glueing themselves to used cooking oil lorries.

This interview came out recently with one of the girls that protested by throwing paint and is an absolute gem. Props to Jacob Rees-Mogg for keeping his cool.

So my question is to all PARDers: Why would US want to destroy EU energy industry? I don’t see these activists raiding Texas frackers or Colonial Pipeline. I also see JPMs Jamie Dimon standing up to congress backing financing oil as it is imperative for current economy to function while his European counterparts race to outdo themselves who will inflict the most damage on the industry.

Not really addressing your question but I would just say most of these people are incredibly stupid and don't understand basic realities. Nor do they fully understand that if anything close to their ask would be implemented you'd have widespread system failures. Food shortages, starvation, basic comforts and needs that we so often take for granted in the western world.

Listened to 30 seconds and she already said something incredibly dumb. No, renewables are not "9 times cheaper", nor does she even understand the basics like what baseload power is. It's almost as if you're trying to have a conversation with a child. I wish more emphasis was placed on education and understanding these things. It's okay to want our societies to be more green and rely on cleaner sources of energy but it's important for it to happen in a orderly and non-disruptive manner.

I don't think the US wants to destroy the EU energy industry, they just want to be in control of it.

In my opinion the main way in which the US exercises its hegemony is through manipulation of finance and trade to effectively wage "war" against allies or enemies whenever it suits their strategic interests.

They don't need to drop a single bomb if they can reduce the standard of living in a country drastically by sanctioning the countries it is dependent on for energy, effectively raising the cost of everything on demand.

The existence of pipelines between energy producers and consumers directly threatens this control, as does a country having control of its own energy production. I'd point to the Nordstream pipelines as examples of this, look how much they complicated the situation in Ukraine, it gave Germany the wiggle room to sit on the fence, at least for awhile.

Sanctions, then propaganda, and if those don't work, blow it up. US foreign policy in a nutshell lol.

I mostly skipped through the video BTW, these people are physically painful to listen to. It is funny to compare her tone at the start to her tone at the end, seems like the way these "debates" always go. I'd also point to people like her as the reason countries like China and Russia ban western media, this "collective action" mentality is toxic.

I’m all for education and I live in a country where you can study for free yet Extinction Rebellion exists here and senior folks participate in it. So education per se is not a factor that would help. Perhaps STEM education is? I haven’t been able to talk to protestors to honestly ask why they do what they do. I do see them wearing polyester/GoreTex clothes like patagonia and arcteryx as well as using PVC banners / stickers for their propaganda which I personally find hilarious. Oh well and this ofcourse: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/02/01/climate-movement-defends-members-who-flew-bali-skipped-trial/

I want to get a sanity check with this post to see if I’m going too deep down the rabbit hole:

1) Aileen Getty - scion of Getty Oil openly brags that she supports and funds eco terrorism. She tries to cover herself that she doesn’t direct them what to do, just sends them a bunch of cash to plan their operations.
2) They only seem to operate in the UK / EU (protests in Netherlands, Germany, France against industry and banks).
3) Aileen is not only not deplatformed for financing terrorism - she is given platform to brag about it.
4) This seems to be a religion of sorts already with people who have lost their god - turning to the church of Green and becoming radicalized - declaring jihad of sorts on those who do not believe

Or am I pants on head retarded and need to go touch some grass?
