clearly the people of that era got it wrong and the people of this era got it right

can't just be christianity bending and reinterpreting itself to reflect the prevailing political climate to remain viable

What a new and exciting perspective.

Ephesians 6:5 - "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."

1 Peter 2:18 - “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.”

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels[a] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."

Inb4 out of context.

Nah, this book is literally the word of God. Slaves, you better obey your masters with respect and fear, even the cruel stuff, and ladies, if you get raped by a man, you get paid 50 silver but you gotta marry him forever and never get divorced.

Word of God, yo.

Terrible attempt at reading for depth, I suggest you grab yourself a study Bible or Google some analyses of the verses in question.

The fact that you read these verses in context and couldn't understand why they aren't explicit commands for us to follow is kind of unbelievable.

Why would an all-knowing god write a holy book that is supposed to be the epitome of wisdom and righteousness, and fill it with erroneous content that becomes irrelevant and outdated in a relatively small time?

I find it simply unbelievable that people view the bible, quran etc as anything other than what it is - a political and moral handbook written by a group of ancient era philosophers and mystics.

I don't think it's inspired either.

But the least non-believers could do if they're trying to debate the text is to have a even remote understanding of it.

that'd require reading it and only following the interpretations of apologists (cuz who else would have a correct understanding of it?) who try to reframe everything about the bible in a positive way and if you don't agree with them then clearly you don't understand what you read blah blah blah waste of time

understanding the bible is a difficult thing... at least thats what people say.

Why does god phrase his words in such a cryptic way? I mean, if i wanted someone to follow my rules i would wright them down as clearly as possible and since god is the master of everything he should be capable of writing the most fluent and precise text ever.
So why didn't god do so? Is it a test?
If it is a test, isn't it fucking unfair? I mean all the smart ones will understand the true meaning of the words but stupidos like me wont get the message and so follow some wrong beliefs, just to end up in hell?
Why is god so cruel?

we are thousands of years and multiple cross language translations from anything that anyone could claim is god's word. Even if someone suggested that the translation itself was divinely guided some words simply dont translate, and even their closest word may cause alot to change.

so the bible is nothing more than some man-made translations of something that used to be the true words of god?
Why should i even read this arangement of translation-mistakes and man-made interpretations?
How can anybody claim to understand the true meaning of the bible if they are all reading gods words, transformed in exactly the way you say?

edit: why doesn't god give us an update? Bible 2.0? He could upload it on facebook or something
